Removable Dental Appliances
From A to Z we have your child's dental needs covered.
There are many dental appliances that can be used by our orthodontist in Staten Island to help correct or maintain your child’s smile. The following is a non-exhaustive list of some of the more commonly used removable dental appliances.
Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADs): mini screws are temporarily fixed to bone in the mouth to provide a fixed point from which to apply force to move teeth. TADs allow for more predictable tooth control.
Rubber bands (elastics): are used when more force is needed to move the teeth and jaws into the desired position. Elastics must be worn by your child all the time and changed every day, because forgetting to wear elastics will cause the treatment to be extended.
Headgear: is used when extra force is needed to move the teeth and jaws. Usually your child must wear it while sleeping and at home.
Retainers: keep your child’s teeth in place once braces are removed. By wearing a retainer, you can prevent your teeth from shifting and requiring further work from our orthodontist in Staten Island. Some retainers are removable and others are fixed.
